Human Papillomavirus Screening and Management Recommendations Women older than 65 Years of Age Algorithm

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted viral infection. Some types of HPV are high risk and can cause cervical cancer. Screening options for the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer depends on age of individual and includes cytology, cotesting, and primary high risk HPV (hrHPV) testing. For women over 65, no screening is recommended if the prior screening was adequate and negative. If the prior screening was inadequate, then cotesting is recommended.
