Ordering Recommendation

Aids in the detection and subclassification of hyperandrogenism. Most useful in women and children with moderate/severe hirsutism or hirsutism of any degree when it is sudden in onset or rapidly progressive.

Specimen Required

Patient Preparation

Collect between 6-10 a.m.

Collect

Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation

Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 2.5 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 1.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions

Hemolyzed specimens.
