Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable disease that may occur acutely or chronically. Chronic infection is often asymptomatic until the onset of cirrhosis or end-stage liver disease. Laboratory testing is useful for the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B and for monitoring therapy progression.
