Primary aldosteronism (hyperaldosteronism) is a syndrome caused by excessive and inappropriate aldosterone production and is the most common form of endocrine hypertension. Indications for testing are hypertension, hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis. The initial hyperaldosteronism workup includes testing for aldosterone/renin activity ratio and aldosterone and renin, direct with ratio.
