The initial workup for immunodeficiency in infants and children varies based on symptoms. When recurrent respiratory infections are present, evaluate for immunoglobulin disorders. In cases of severe viral infections, fungal infection, or recurrent sinopulmonary infections, evaluate for T-cell disorders. When abscesses, pneumonia, and delayed separation of the umbilical cord are present alongside recurrent respiratory infections, test for complement activity, lymphocytes, and immunoglobulins.
