Primary Aldosteronism Testing Algorithm

Primary aldosteronism (PA, or hyperaldosteronism) is a syndrome caused by excessive and inappropriate aldosterone production and is the most common form of endocrine hypertension. Indications for testing include hypertension, hypokalemia, and metabolic alkalosis. The initial workup for PA includes testing for aldosterone/renin activity ratio and aldosterone and renin, direct with ratio.
