Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is a rare disorder characterized by low secretion of growth hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland. In adults, it is most commonly caused by hypothalamic-pituitary tumors and their treatment, though it may also be caused by traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, and central nervous system infections. The initial workup for adult-onset GHD (AOGHD) includes static tests for growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and stimulation tests.
