When diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (AMI), test for Troponin T (3001831) rather than Myoglobin, Serum (0020224), or Creatine Kinase, MB (CK-MB) (0080480). Troponin T is specific to cardiac injury. Troponins are released earlier than CK-MB, and as early as myoglobin, after an AMI.

Recommendation

This test has largely been replaced by troponin testing, which is generally available immediately. CK-MB as a reference test has little clinical utility.
